Pilates can improve your sex life. Period. And, as per usual, I speak from experience.
I hope that by now, everyone has read about or has firsthand knowledge about the benefits of living a healthy life, and this includes fitness. Any kind of working out leads to more energy, more confidence, and less muffin top. The prouder you are of your physique, the more likely you’ll want to show it off, especially between the sheets. For me, this means a steady dose of Pilates. It has made me so confident in bed, I should be getting paid. Wait. Never mind.
Through a steady Pilates practice, you will be insatiable, and you’ll be a pro. Wait, never mind. I’ll break it down using several Pilates principles by way of example.
If the pelvic floor muscles, which are a part of the core (see my post on core), are strong, you’ll be able to increase tension, master movements, and orgasm upon your command. I’ve been a Pilates instructor for over ten years now, and one of the many beautiful side effects is my ability to contract and release at will. Pilates is empowering! Period.
If you’re not sure where or what the pelvic floor muscles are, then as you continue to read this, pretend you’re going to pee your pants and then try and stop your pretend pee. Those are them.
Pilates exercises involve coordinating the breath with movement. Emphasis is made on expansive inhalations and exhalations. This brings oxygenated blood to the muscles faster. When we do this correctly, it leads to increased blood flow to the sex organs. Let’s face it, who wants to suck wind during sex when you’d rather be sucking something else. Whoa, easy there. All I’m saying is that Improved breath will increase stamina.
Controlled panting is what you want, and Pilates is a perfect way to practice control. Muscle control is required to perform each exercise accurately and precisely. You will become more aware of how your body moves and the function each muscle has within that movement.
Pilates is a mind body system, it’s as much mental as it is physical. When I’m teaching, I use imagery, so my clients use proper form. This requires them to focus and concentrate. Although the images that I sometimes use in bed are different, I’m laser-focused nonetheless. I don’t want extraneous movement but rather maximum sexual efficiency. That’s Pilates.
I’m not saying that Pilates will turn you into a contortionist. What I can guarantee increased flexibility if you work the program. The hip joints, for example, are worked in many exercises. The ability to bring your legs over your head, or splay them out like a wishbone, can be very erotic and playful. You and your partner will undoubtedly be impressed.
Stability plays a vital role in Pilates. Core and balance are continuously challenged. If you’re able to stabilize yourself in certain sexual positions, this can enhance sexy time. Think about it. The ability to Balance on all fours and demonstrating a solid foundation on a waterbed? Endless possibilities.
Mr. Pilates designed a piece of equipment called the Cadillac, which includes an attachment called the Trapeze. It allows for super creative movements. I have a feeling that Mr. Pilates knew precisely what he was doing. He wanted us to take his moves out of the Pilates studio and into our bedrooms. Hang from the rafters, (if you’re into extreme sports), or fulfill your (my) childhood dream of joining the circus.
Pilates has also been proven to help erectile dysfunction. Fortunately, I can’t speak from experience because my boyfriend is a Pilates devotee. E.D. isn’t his problem; locking car doors and gambling is. We all have our crosses to bear.
Get into a Pilates studio, and mount your partner with confidence, zest, and without the fear of pulling a groin muscle.
